Situated on the south bank of the Ottawa River, Ottawa, with a population of 812,000 has been the federal capital Canada. The story goes that the capital moved from Kingston (Ontario) to Ottawa during the 1812 war because Kingston, located on the northern shores of Lake Ontario, was deemed too vulnerable to a US attack, whereas the American, so the government sought thought, would never find the new capital if it were moved away from the lake into a heavy forested area.
Ottawa is a nearly bilingual city and not just for political reasons, but also for a geographic reason: the Ottawa River, which separates the province of Quebec from Ontario, is crossed by many bridges connecting the city to Gatineau (Quebec), lying on the northern shore of the river, making the Ottawa-Gatineau couple a nearly integrated economic entity. In fact, Ottawa is part of the National Capital Region (NCR). The NCR comprises Ottawa, Gatineau and surroundings areas with a total population of nearly a million and a half people.
Because of its status as federal capital, Ottawa is one of the places to be for any language services company such as Express International Translations Inc. We have translators in Ottawa and we offer a wide range of specialized language services including translations in any language combination and all variants of interpretation (sign language, simultaneous interpretation, consecutive interpretation). Express International Translations, liked elsewhere in Canada, is the way to go. |
